80th Anniversary of VE Day

Updated: 5 minutes ago

There will be four days of nationwide celebrations across the country leading up to VE Day 80 on Thursday 8 May 2025. Local events include:

Monday 5 May: flags and picnic lunch in the Square

Nationwide there will be street parties and community get-togethers and a flypast of historic and current military aircraft including the Red Arrows on Bank Holiday Monday.

The flypast often goes over the SPRA area en-route to or from Buckingham Palace.

We will have the flags up in St Peter’s Square to encourage all locals to come and picnic from 12:30 on Monday 5 May – bring your own rugs/ picnic furniture, food, drink etc for what we hope will be a wonderful community day and an opportunity to catch sight of the flypast.

Thursday 8 May: St Peter’s church bells ring out in celebration

St Peter’s Church bells will “Ring Out in Celebration”, joining bells around the nation to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day and to give thanks for those who offered their services, and many lives, that we might know peace.

All are welcome to join in and raise a glass in loyal toast. Doors open at 6.30pm; donation bar.
