Selma van de Perre, local resident and long time SPRA supporter, has a remarkable story which is being told in the Channel 4 series "Women on the Front Line' live at 7pm on Saturday 3rd August and after this, available on catch up, on Channel 4 On Demand.
Selma told of her experience as a WW2 resistance fighter and concentration camp survivor in her celebrated book 'My Name is Selma', which she wrote in her '90's and has now been published around the world.
Selma, who is Dutch by birth, joined the Dutch resistance aged just 20 and helped save many lives, was captured by the Nazis and imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp but survived and moved to England where she met and married a Belgian journalist. She has lived in the SPRA area for well over 60 years.
Selma recently celebrated her 102nd birthday and whilst her eyesight isn't what it was, her mind remains as sharp as a tack.
Now Selma comes to our screens in the Channel 4 documentary "Women on the Front Line' which tells the remarkable stories of women such as Selma and female pilots, journalists, guerrillas and spies who fought, flew and in some cases, died in World War II, defying expectation and prejudice.
